Friday 26th March - Back To Auckland

So i spent Thursday just chilling out most the time. I had lunch with the Austrian girls in the hostel and when 4 oclock came I went to meet Paul for a couple of pints. It was really nice to see him and again and catch up on what both of us had been upto the past few weeks. We're planning on travelling down on the Stray bus together in a couple of weeks time so that should be pretty cool.
The irish girls came past just before Paul left telling us they had to be rescued from the boat they were on as the mast collapsed! So they were starting drinking early aswell!
I had dinner with them next to the hostel about 7 and then headed into the bar for a few drinks that night. 1 olock came and we had to leave for our rooms to our dismay!
Today I spent the day on the beach reading a book and listening to my music waiting to hop on the stray bus back to auckland at 1 oclock. Our driver was Juggs but didnt tell us why which was wierd. We only visited 1 place on the way as the route was pretty much the same. It was a waterfall just outside Whangarei, this one was far more impressive than the one on the way up but was more widely known about. We rolled into Auckland about half 6 and I managed to check myself back into the room I had before I left so im pretty set again for the next couple of weeks before Paul comes back. Heading out tonight with Kiwi Dave and them about 10 so that should be good!

Wednesday 24th March - Sandboarding

After a pickle in the morning about whether or not I was booked on the bus, they eventually caved in and let me go even though I was supposed to booked on anyway.
I'll let you no know, the driver was a cunt and im suprised he has his job as his customer service is wank. All the stray people fell alseep most of the time except when we went onto ninety mile beach to catch some photos. There isnt much to say about this day trip as none of us really enjoyed it that much. The 2 things I did enjoy was sandboarding off the huge dunes they had and then going to most northern tip of the country to see where the Tasman sea and Pacific Ocean meet creating some cool whirlpools. Didnt do much this night due to hangover and being shattered!

Tuesday 23rd March - Stray Bus

I had to get up at 7am to make sure I was on the bus for 7.45am, luckily I went to bed early so this wasnt too much of a problem. Our driver was Sue and like all Stray drivers had a nickname... Dent. We left Auckland for the Bay Of Islands to the north. We drove over the harbour bridge which was pretty cool. I fell asleep most of the way, waking up for our little half an hour stops to take pictures. Firstly at this little suburb outside Auckland beginning with 'O', aparantly house prices have gone up for $25,000 to $250,000 because of how popular its got. The beach was pretty cool to look at but far too cold to go on! Next stop was breakfast in Warkworth about 1 and a half hours outside Auckland. This was a tiny little town but had a gorgeous cafe to eat and drink in. We picked a good cafe as the barista's were amazing and not in the way they made coffee!
We hoped back on the bus and off the main road up to the North and onto gravel tracks through the hills. We stopped at a Kauri tree which was 14m in circumference and thousands of years old which was cool.
Next stop was a small waterfall with nautral spring water pools at the bottom of it.
At the bottom of the waterfall was a small rainbow aswell which was awesome. I can imagine that only the locals could know about this waterfall as the track to it wasnt very used and the entrance wasnt very visible. We hoped back on the bus to go Ruakaka beach. We were supossed to go to a marine reserve but due to a small cyclone off the coast of Fiji the visibiltiy would have been poor. Sue had said that this was her favourite beach but never brings Stray here, so again, another beach most tourists don't know about.
The sand was golden and so soft and the water was so clear aswell. I booted a rugby ball into the water and swam after it only to realise that you can still stand up in
it about 50m into the sea!
Next stop was Whangerei but there wasnt much to do here but grab some food from the cafe. On the way to paihia we got a flat tyre which meant we were stuck in the middle of nowhere for 2 hours twiddling our thumbs but it was a good way to get to know everyone on the bus. There was another brit lad called Chris, 2 Austrian girls I had met already in Fusion Ellie and Cira, 3 Irish girls, a dutch girl and 2 german girls.
We got back under way eventually stopping at Waitangi where the treaty of Waitangi was signed and New Zealand was born. We trundled into Paihia, checked in and got some kip before the nights activities. The Hostel is surrounded by sub-tropical trees with other buildings just popping up between them. We had a pub quiz that evening and we split into 2 teams...
'Fat Kids Are Harder To Kidnap' and 'Chris's Cocksuckers' good classic pub quiz names. We all ended up getting abit too drunk that night and getting back to our rooms about half 4 even though we knew we were up at 7am for our bus.

Gun Shell - Saturday 20th March

because of a stinking hangover I spent the day watching movies on my laptop before heading the supermarket with Carly to grab some ingredients for dinner. Im not going to lie to you, i guessed and used my instincts when cooking and luckily it was a success!
I entered the pool comp in the evening just so I had something to do. I bumped into one of the geordie lads that came the rugby (Christiaan) and his mates. We all got knocked out the first round aswell. I was planning on going back to the room before I had a jaegarbomb put down in front of me. Uh Oh. We all went to the 1st floor toilets to drink a few boxes of tequila sunrise then headed out. My memory gets very vague but I recall meeting up with some of the kiwis from the course (Anna, Matt, Dave and Alice) and a few of their friends. We went to a few bars then I smuggled them into the hostel to watch Borat. I dont remember anything but woke up with lipstick all over me saying "thug life" "i love dave" "gun" on one bicep and "shell" on the other. I recall Chrissy coming in crying her eyes out and spent hours comforting her before waking up at 9am by the cleaner poking me.
Ive spent the whole of Sunday dying in my bed but im off to watch the Liverpool Manchester United game at half 2 in the morning!

Paddy's Day and everything up to Friday 19th

So yet again I've left it a few days before re-doing my blog and I've forgotted loads of stuff... again!
Paddy's day was pretty mild if i remember rightly. I didn't do anything during the day due to mega hangover so I just let the time fly by until about half 3 when I cooked lunch for me and Carly then went to the bar course. I think a few of them had been on it already and were swaying a little! I had made plans to meet up with some of the people that went out on the day trip (Scott from Scotland and Morv from scotland, Monique from somewhere in the south, the 2 yanks Jason and Scott, Kate from somewhere in the south aswell) We went to the 2 irish bars across the road from cassette and somewhere in the night Monique, Kate and the 2 yanks bailed!
Me and the 2 scots decided we would be really irish and go to Nachos the mexican bar/restaurant! got some nachos and went home about 2/2.30

I woke up and made myself breakfast. Then revised like mad as Thursday was exam day! I had made plans to meet up with Hanna and Florri the 2 girls from Devon as they were leaving for Singapore in the morning. I'm not going to lie to you, I struggled on the exam. I think I've passed but I am a 75% man and the pass mark is 75%. I forgot how to make a Manhattan, Dry Martini and Sex on the Beach amongst some others but these 3 decided to make their way onto the exam. The Manhattan appeared on my practical and the theory!
After the exam most of us went to the student union bar for a few drinks and some pool. It was really fun to have some drinks with them and talk about being in New Zealand and some of them had been to the UK aswell. I got a few names for facebook and some numbers so I should be sorted for contacts!
I went back to fusion to see if Hanna and Florri were there but I think I just missed them! I bumped into Chrissie though and we had a few drinks before deciding to retire to the TV room to watch Borat and drink through a 3 litre box of tequila sunrise! Safe to say we got smashed and a drunken kiss was exchanged leaving Friday an awkward day!

Friday... Rugby Day!!!
Woke up with an enormous headache and lay in bed for hours feeling sorry for myself. I got up about half 2 and ran down the supermarket to get some food for dinner and change onto Vodafone so I couldn't get shit off the kiwis for being on the crap network!
I cooked lunch/dinner for me and Carly again then at 5 oclock got my game face on and headed down to the Fat Camel for the rugby trip. The 3 Austrian girls that came out the other night were down there and so was the London couple Lee and Sarah that are now in my dorm.
I went a little overboard with the face paint I think and got my whole face in blue and white with "GO BLUES!" on my front and then 11 Rokocoko on my back. Yup.
We left for the game on the Stray bus and played some bus rugby (2 people have to try and get from the back of the bus to the front, climbing over the seats on their side. The people in the seats have to try and stop them!)
The game itself was amazing! The atmosphere was abit subdued but it had bursts where the atmosphere was electric! the game finished 39-34 to the Blues. We had some fun in the crowd with mexican waves and a racist drunk kiwi infront of us who was fucking hilarious! When we got back I went to fusion for a couple of drinks then retired to bed absolutely shattered!

Sunday, Monday, Tuesday 14th,15th,16th March

I'm not going to lie to you, I can't remember alot about Sunday or Monday really except that we went out for Danny's birthday on the sunday. Him and James took some party pills and had a really bad come down on the Monday. Monday, I spent the day with Carly doing some shopping and in the jacuzzi chilling. Monday night we out at Nachos, who make the worst margeritas in the world. Yesterday I went on the day trip to Waiheke Island and it just turned into a drinking session all day! I went so I could get some closure on Sammi by making new memories on that Island so when I look back I won't just remember the time me and her had on the Island. I definately did make some new memories! although they are abit all too hazy in my head.
When we got back from the Island we gave ourselves an hour to get ready before meeting in Fusion bar to get on it again as it was one of the lads birthdays (Dane's) The night we had was so much fun! We got a really good mix of people out (3 Welshys, 1 guy from Bristol, 3 Scots, 2 Austrians, 2 Yanks, 2 London geezers and 1 London girl). At one point we had to leave Cassette as we were getting hunted down by some Maori's... We definately messed with the wrong guy! I can safely say that I'm going to have a headache for some time today but I'm still getting on it for Paddy's day later!

Beans on Toast - Saturday 13th March

Me and Danny got up about half 12 which to be fair was planned. We felt like we deserved a lie in and got one. We left the hostel about 2 oclock after being on the internet for abit and grabbed ourselves some brunch. We had planned to do quite abit of shopping but didn't get round to doing anything until 4 oclock, we have decided that we have the shittest organisation in the world!
Danny bought a guitar and I had a look at a few rugby boots as I'm now gagging for a game!
We arranged to have dinner at 8ish and somehow managed to be on time. We put our culinary skills together and came up with beans on toast! but it was gorgeous though.
We're having an early night tonight as it's Danny's birthday tomorrow so we are going to save ourselves for tomorrow night. England are playing in the morning but I don't think im going to be able to watch it anywhere which is crap.
I've decided that I'm going to have as little chilled out days as possible. I don't think im over Sammi and not doing anything is making me think about her and what happened so I've decided to try my best to occupy my mind all day and night until I am.

Friday 12th March - Chill Out Day

Danny and James had gone on a day trip to Piha which left me with all day to recover and chill out by myself. I hadn't really had a day to myself I've been here so that was nice.
All I did really until the guys came back was chill out in I.E.P and watch anchorman and a couple of episodes of One Tree Hill on the laptop. When the guys came back we
headed up to the jacuzzi for abit. Chilled out there and then got ready to go out. Saskia our new room mate for the night agreed to come out with us. We grabbed some dinner from Burger King and headed for the fat camel. Pretty much everyone was there which was cool. I was unsocial for a little bit as the rugby was on the telly, I finally got to watch a game! After the rugby left we headed for the irish bar again. Most of the people were tired and left after a couple of drinks. It was only me, Danny and 4 others that we had met in the fat camel that night (Hannah, Florence and there 2 guy mates whose names I can't remember, oops.) We stayed in the irish pub for another drink before heading to Globe Bar. It was a good night in there but after an hour or so it was only me and Hannah left as the others had gone home early. We stuck it out till the end, bringing out some dodgy dance moves and a cheeky kiss to top it off at the end. We walked back to the hostel about 4 in the morning and I just collapsed on my bed. I am not going out tonight (Saturday)
as I really think my body needs a rest from alcohol and we're saving ourselves for Danny's 20th on Sunday!

Thursday 11th March - Kiwi girls can drink

Today was the beach bbq trip with the Stray bus. We headed down to Mission bay armed with sausages and burgers lead by Speedo, Hayden and Handbrake.
The plan was to just chill out for the day with a few beers, well that was the plan until Wade and Johanna brought along the left over Goon from last night!
They had stayed at the park till half 6 the previous night with the goon! There was a pretty good crowd of us heading down there with a good mix of nationalities aswell.
Its days like these that help me forget about the bad things that have happened to me and its pretty safe to say that despite being on the beach where Sammi told me everything, I hadn't thought about once at all. Its only when I get back to bed that it reappears in my head, I will miss her but I won't forgive her for what she did though.
We rocked up at the beach, the sunbathing began and out came the goon! It was such a good day and a great laugh. There were about 5 lads with guitars jamming and singing
which was really cool and relaxing. I got to play abit of rugby with a couple of lads from Southampton, Speedo and we taught a german guy a few things.
For $2 we got a pretty good deal. Free transport there, a burger, a sausage and free transport back.
We rocked up for a quick pint at the fat camel afterwards before I had to get ready for the course. Me, Hayden and the Southampton lads agreed that if we got enough money, we would let Hayden go mental on our hair just for shits and giggles. After the course, 2 of the people came with me to the fat camel to see it go down but unfortunately Hayden backed out but me and the 2 of them agreed to have a night out in the recent future.
We had a few more pints, played abit of beer pong and outside the toilets I got talking to 3 kiwi girls. We had a bet on who would come out the toilet first as they were taking ages.
I went for the girl, and the kiwis went for the boy. The bet was if I won i got a free drink and they won I would buy all 3 of them a drink. I won obviously.
We sat down by the bar and I called over the 2 Southampton lads and all 6 of us made a plan to go on a bar crawl for the night and try and drink eachother under the bar!
We hit about 6 or 7 bars which isnt a bad haul for a night to be honest. The kiwi girls were up for a laugh and really outgoing which made for some harmless flirting.
As heartless as it sounds, its common knowledge that the best way of getting over someone is by having a rebound. Couldn't tell you if I did or didn't as I can't remember the back end of the night. I just know I woke up at 2 in the afternoon!

Sharks! - Thursday 11th March

Me, Danny and James got up about 10 to go grab some breakfast. We were quite gutted as Maccies and Burger King had stopped breakfast at half 10 so we missed it! We found an Irish bar around the corner from the first hostel we stayed in in Auckland and got ourselves a full english (the first I had had since arriving in NZ!)
The 3 of us made our way up to IEP to book our Shark Cage experience at Kelly Tarleton's Underwater Adventure (or something like that). It cost $49 each which converts back to pound sterling at about 23 quid, bargain like!
We went back to the hostel and got changed and hopped in a taxi towards mission bay to do the shark cage. We had about an hour to spare before the sharks so we had a little wonder, looking at the penguins, sea turtles, eels, stingrays and other fish things. It was all very interesting but we just wanted to get in with the sharks. At 2.55pm on the dot we were escorted behind the scenes to get in our wetsuits, mask and snorkel and sign a form basically signing our life away to the sharks.
There was a guy called Pablo from mexico in our cage aswell, he looked just a little bit scared aswell!
We were in the cage for about 20mins with the sharks and other fish. It was so cool and luckily Danny had an underwater camera so we could catch it all in photo. Unfortunately theres about 2 good pictures of the sharks and 10 of us in the water haha.
There were handles under all around the cage so we could go underwater fully for a few seconds and take it all in. It was abit un-nerving when the cage was made out of nets!
We got out the water all with beaming smiles on our faces! I'm not sure if it was because we had swum with sharks or we were in a hot shower! the sharks water was pretty cold!
Again I had to leave early so I could get back for my bar course. I got back the room and found that Emily hadn't been out of bed all day, lazy shit!
Danny was taking Emily up the sky tower for a meal again so we all agreed to meet for a few drinks afterwards again.
I learnt a few more cocktails (the sour ones like Cosmo, Margerita, White Lady, Kamikaze, Whisky Sour and so on, pretty easy really)
Me and James grabbed a Dominoes for dinner before heading to the Fat Camel for drinks.
There were loads of people there and luckily James knew them all from the Rangutoto trip so I got to know quite a few more people. After a couple of hours we departed for somewhere to carry on the night. The mass of people had split up in about half. There was Me, Danny, James, Emily, Lotte from Denmark, Juliana from Sweden, Wade from Canada, Aaron from Ireland then another Canadian, 2 german, another bloke from England and another girl but I can't remember where from.
We went to an Irish bar for a few more drinks which ended up lasting til 2 in the morning! Me and Lotte ended up challenging eachother to game of who could get the most kisses in the bar. By the time we had to leave it was 12-12 so being the gentleman I am, I gave her one on the cheek and accepted defeat.
We went back the hostel to make a plan as none of us wanted to call it a night. The call was to grab some 'Goon' (really cheap potent white wine) and head for Albert Park, Classy. In the end only Me, Wade, Juliana and Lotte went as the others sobered up and got tired!
After an hour or so lying on the grass drinking shit wine, singing songs and telling stories from adventures back home, me and Lotte called it a night and let the other 2 carry on on our behalf.
I've woke up this morning with a banging headache, that Goon really is strong shit!
Hopefully the beach trip today should sort my head out, I canni wait!

Sex Face Cocktails - Tuesday 9th March

I went back to the room after writing up yesterdays blog today, I bumped into Carly who was now working on reception at the hostel. Everyone was in the room and had made plans for the day. The lads and Emily were going to Rangutoto Island to see the volcano, the girls had booked themselves on the 1pm bus to Keri Keri.
We all left to go downstairs so the lads could say bye to the girls and wait for the bus to the Island. Afterwards me and the girls went up to IEP for half an hour to use the Internet. The clock hit 12.15 and it was time to walk the girls to the bus. It was funny watching them struggle with the big backpacker bags, I'm sure they could fit inside them!
I waited with them for the bus and after hugs and goodbyes, waved them on their way. It was sad seeing them leave but I promised to see them when I headed up to northland.
I spent the rest of the day buying some essentials like shampoo, laptop charger and a camera, hung out in the IEP lounge and before I knew it, it was time to get ready for the course.
I was early this time round! We learnt some garnishing tricks, some more built up cocktails (Tequila Sunrise, Vodka Sundown, Madras and Seabreeze) and some of the fun shaken ones (Strawberrys and Cream, Brandy Alexander and Grasshopper).
Jordan told us that the face you make shaking is infact your sex face which provoked some giggles later!
It was a really cool night and we all got to no eachother more, they seem a really cool bunch of people.
It was the lads time to close up and as soon as that was done I grabbed some dinner went to bed, I'm shattered now and hope I'm not up too early in the morning for possibly going to the aquarium.

The Sky Tower - Monday 9th March

After grabbing some lunch with Danny and Emily everyone jumped on the bus to the zoo.
The weather as it has been since I've been here, was gorgeous, barely a cloud in the sky!
It was a short walk to the zoo from the bus station and it all looked very promising until I saw the price. $20, and for the limited time we were going to be there it wasn't a great price but hey, I hadn't been to a zoo in ages.
We didn't get to see much of the animals (mainly because we spent too much time looking at the meerkats and tigers). The highlight for me was going into the tunnels underneath the meerkat enclosure and being able to pop my head up into the bubbles and see them, at one point there 4 of them stood no more than 2 metres away from me!
We saw the red panda's aswell which in my eyes was disappointing, I'd never heard or seen a red panda before so I was expecting like a normal sized panda but abit red... yeeeeah they were tiny haha but still amazing creatures.
We also saw some parrots and tiny monkeys which I cant remember what they were called. We did an 'Aussie Walkabout' which was a walk through an emu and kangaroo enclosure which was cool.
Last thing I got to see was the Tigers (5 in all I think), it was there play time so we got to see them in full motion, play fighting and swimming. they were huge and only cubs! I got to speak to Sammi briefly just to say I left a little out of order in terms of how much I beat her down with my words the other night and I just wanted to be civil for the rest of the day and at the meal so there was no awkwardness, this actually made me feel alot better about myself and the situation. I still havn't forgiven either of them but I just wanted to be able to talk like we used to.
I had to leave early as I had my bar course but I was really cutting it fine to get back, get changed and then get to the bar school on time.
I got back to the hostel about 5.40 and my course was due to start at 6. ooops.
I had no time to iron my trousers and shirt, or polish my shoes! The dress code was just casual/tidy but we had made dinner reservations at the revolving restaurant in the sky tower at 9.30 so I had to go smart so I could go straight to dinner.
When I left the hostel I should of only been about 5/10mins late but stupid me forget to take the peice of paper with the address on and got hopefully lost!
I finally made it, only 20mins late!
The school was very well laid out. Tables and chairs in the middle with a bar surronding us. The tutors were very nice, Jordan's from the UK and Greg from NZ. We learnt the very basics about spirits and some cocktails (N.Z black russian, Black russian, White russian and White cuban.) We got to play bartender for the last 45mins so we could get used to being behind a bar, taking orders and mixing drinks.
The people on the course seem really cool and theres a good mix of nationalities although I think im the only brit on the course but that's cool, no dodgy scouser jokes this way!
The lads got to leave early as the girls were closing up, this gave me time to grab a quick drink with Carly before dinner.
She told me she had got a job working for her accomodation at the Hostel (she couldn't tell me this before as people in the hostel shouldnt know). I was really happy for her as she had been a little down like me but this had really cheered her up. Plus it means that if the others move on in the next few days then I still have a friend here in Auckland!
I left a little late to catch dinner (half an hour to be precise).
In the lift on the way up you could see out across Auckland and down the elevator to see how far up you had gone, quite scary really.
I got to the table and they had made they're way through starters already but I didn't want one anyway. I ordered myself a Black Russian to drink and the Lamb to eat. The food was simply amazing, the lamb was cooked to perfection, as were the potatoes and the sauce was mouth watering! It was almost perfect timing, as soon as I had finished my main, we had done a whole 360 degrees around Auckland. The views were breath taking, with everything lit up and dark spots where the harbours and ports were.
I think the fact that I had spoke to Sammi before made for a much better atmosphere on the table, I realised I still had feelings for her despite what had happened but atleast I knew what was going on in my head and I could supress them and not let them dictate me like before.
We ordered desert, I went for the Mint Creme Brulee which again was amazing. The only problem I have with food is that the nicer it tastes, the quicker I eat it. The others had to get in quick if they wanted to taste it! Im sure the meal made me put on weight because when I went to the toilet, I went to adjust my belt and the bloody thing popped and broke on me which took ages to fix!
We were the last to leave and left after the restaurant had stopped revolving!
The plan was to then go to the Globe bar for a few more goodbye drinks but I just wanted to go back to bed as I was shattered.
I had a drink and a shot then said ciao to the others. I asked Sammi to come outside so I could say bye to her properly and clear the air. I told her how I really felt about everything and not like the other night when I was just ranting and raving at her. We said our goodbyes and went our seperate ways. I just went to bed when I got back so I could get some good sleep as it was already 1am.
I woke up in the morning, packed my bag and went downstairs to book myself back into the others room as I knew Sammi and Lucy were leaving that morning.
I got my key and went upstairs, only to find that they had over slept and missed their bus! I dunno what they're doing now, probaly catching another bus today. We'll have to see later

Nando's -Sunday 7th Part 2/ Monday 8th March Part 1

I decided I would put on a brave face and come out for something to eat. To be fair, the hostel im now staying in is pretty shit, the place smells, the beds uncomfortable and squeeks excessively! theres no way I was staying in tonight.
I went up to the others guys room to wait for them to get ready. It was then I realised it was 2 couples then me and Sammi, this was going to be an extremely awkward night. I seen Carly and one of the guys from the jacuzzi while I was getting cash out, we made plans to watch a film and get drunk after my meal.
I luckily took out my Ipod and while we were walking round I stuck my headphones in and went into my shell again, there was nothing to talk about except the 1 thing thats been on my mind recently and its not exactly with the best company to talk about it.
I was very close to having a mature conversation with her but it would only have been a matter of time before I brought up the issue again. We decided on Nando's and ordered, It got to the point where I just wanted to finish my food and leave, so I ate as quickly as I could, didn't say a word to anyone then said my goodbyes and left.
I didn't end up going to watch a movie in the end, I just went back to my hostel and went to bed. Sammi and Lucy leave for Keri Keri Tuesday morning so I'm moving back into the guys hostel until my bar course is over then travelling round, can't wait to meet new people and forget about this all.
I woke up and checked out, I've reserved a room in the other hostel for a week so atleast now I no im going to be in the same room for a week and relax abit. I got my bar course tonight which should be good then we are all planning to have a meal in the Sky Tower for Sammi and Lucy's last night. I think im going to try and have a normal conversation with her tonight, Ive got really bored of dodging her and I think the group as a whole would appreciate it more if I tried being civil.
We're planning on going the zoo later so which will be good but I've got to be back for 5pm so won't be there long

Albert Park Concert - Sunday 7th March

Everyone else got back to the room a couple of hours after me, I was just lying on my bed feeling sorry for myself but after awhile Carly had come in the room dressed and ready to go out. I wasn't feeling it at first but I decided that I was going to stop feeling sorry for myself and go out. I quickly showered and changed ready to get on it again. The mood in the room was still really awkward but that comes part and parcel with the situation.
Me and Carly went down the hostel bar (Fusion) to wait for everyone else to come down. The queue for the food was massive so we got some drinks straight away. I had a 2-4-1 on house drinks card so I went for the double vodka coke swiftly. I made my way through them and 2 more in the time Carly had drank half a pint. While we were waiting for the others we got talking and it took my mind off things. The bar we were in reminded me of Apres/Alpine back home and was really cool. The others came down and this is where I went into my shell again, I got 2 more drinks to take my tally for the night to 6 doubles. The queue died down for food and I got my free meal, bangers and mash. Well it was more like smash and a cocktail sausage!
Me and Carly got on rounds and had a pint of lager, then some jaegerbombs at the bar before leaving for the Fat Camel with everyone. I quickly got myself another pint and made my way through it quicklym, it was at this point me and Danny made our way round the bar talking to girls in an attempt to cheer me up. To be honest, I was just hoping to make Sammi jealous even though I knew it would to be to no avail. I sat down with Carly for the rest of the night in the camel and we moved onto cocktails. Its this point I lose count of how much I was drinking and even what I drinking. She could see I was down in the dumps and suggested we sneak back to Fusion to get away from the problem. The good thing with Carly is shes so ditzy you can't help but laugh no matter how shit you're feeling.
We stayed in Fusion for abit before leaving to go back to our rooms. When I got back to the room Sammi was already there. After a few minutes of awkward silence I thought fuck it, im going to lay it all on her. At First I just wanted her to no how upset and crushed I felt but that quickly moved on to just wanting to make her feel as bad as i felt and 2 inches tall.
I think I succeeded and at the time I had no remorse despite seeing that she had been crying throughout our 'conversation'.
I went to bed and set my alarm early so that I could sneak off without anyone seeing me leave. I think I failed on that as I think pretty much everyone was half awake while I was packing, I felt like such a coward, running away from the first sign of conflict but I just had a constant feeling of being sick while I was in that room.
I booked myself into the hostel down the road and had 3/4 hours to kill before I was allowed to move in. I went down to starbucks to get some breakfast and think properly about it all. I barely ate what I ordered and decided to go back to the hostel and listen to my Ipod in the lounge while I waited.
I tried ringing Carly and Danny but got no answer so I thought I'd blag my way back into the hostel they were staying in so that I could see what they were doing today as we were going to do some retail therapy.
They had all checked out, well I thought so anyway. I went for a walk up Queen St. and bumped into Danny and James, they told me they were going the park for the concert so we grabbed some booze and headed up there.
When I got there I quickly realised I was abit of a 5th wheel as Danny was with Emily who was one of the girls from bar and obviously Lucy and James were together but I sucked it up and tried to make the most of it. The sun was burning and the music was faint and crap really.
The park was lovely but I was struggling not to think about the past days events and how in such a short space of time it had all changed. I spoke to Lucy alot about it all and she comforted me and told me she had been in my position before and completely understood how I was feeling.
The red mist from the night before had subsided away and I was feeling less pissed off and more just upset. They kept talking about Waiheke Island but I was finding it hard not to think about the time I spent with Sammi on it and how it felt so wasted now.
We left the park and headed for some food. I was planing on sitting in the room with the others before we went out tonight but Lucy had told me Sammi was on her way back from her visiting her family. Suddenly I felt sick all over again and promptly left to come back to the hostel where I am now. Im in limbo about whether I am going to go out tonight or just give it a miss as it'll be the 2 couples and then me and Sammi but they are going to ring me when they're heading and if they're new room mate and Carly jump along I might show my face

The Rainy Day - Saturday 6th March

Ive just got back from the beach and I don't quite know what to make of the days events so far, I'm quite chilled but at the same time ive got alot of anger just bubbling below the surface.
The morning was kinda wierd, I got back from my run, had a cold shower and climbed back into bed to listen to my ipod and do some blogging. You'll remember I had a million thoughts flying round my brain aswell. Me and Sammi didn't really say much all day, I made abit of an effort but knew something was up so I gave her some space.
I went down to Starbucks on my bill to grab some breakfast as I couldn't be bothered waiting for the others to get out of bed, even though they were all awake.
I got back and we (Me, Danny, James and Sammi) decided we would grab some brunch and head down the beach for the day to catch some rays.
Again not many words had been exchanged between me and Sammi (I was still feeling quite down as I knew something was up but didn't want to say anything). We went down to this small bar by the hostel and at the bar I asked Sammi if we were okay, I got the response I was expecting "We need to talk later". She refused to tell me there and then which made me a completely different person, I went into my shell and hardly spoke a word to anyone.
I went up to the room to go on the internet and have some 'me' time while the others went shopping for Danny's camera.
They got back and we decided to go down the beach, we waited for one of the girls we had met up in the hot tub and left for the beach. It was a gorgeous day but nothing could clear my mind of the impending talk on the horizon.
I don't want to go into details but I found out what the matter was...
Matty and Sammi had kissed the night before and were "sort of together", we spoke about the situation for a few minutes. This crushed me and after the rain starting pouring down I promptly got a taxi back.
I hit the bar for some strong drinks before deciding to go back to the room. I bumped into Lucy in the room and told her what happened. She already knew, as did everyone else.
She was really good at calming me down and helping me get a fresh view on things.
Here I am, I think im just going to go to bed and then get myself into a different dorm as I really don't think I can stay in the same room as her tonight

Matty's Last Night In Auckland - Friday 5th March

The day started off pretty poorly really, our alarms were due to go off at half 8 in the morning so we could decide what we were going to do about a hostel for the next night (you can only buy 1 night at a time)but they didnt go off and luckily me and sammi woke up at 9 and sneakily set my ipod alarm for 2mins later so we didn't look stupid. We did a little research for cheaper hostels than our one (Nomads Fusion) but no real luck so we just bought another night here.
After a little lie in we made our plan for the day. Starbucks, IEP Lounge, Shopping, Meal, Out. Sorted. Nothing like a massive caffeine and sugar rush to set your day off (Mocha Latte with 2 sugars and a chocolate caramel slice). We stayed in the IEP lounge on the internet for a couple of hours just catching up on things back home and checking emails. Next stop was lunch, theres a small food court a couple of roads down from us that do Japanese, Italian, Chinese, SUbway, Mexican and Indian (All the staff in these places were Asian so it was very authentic, not.) I went for some tacos but ended up severly disappoint and basically skipped lunch and ran back to the lounge to do a small job search whilst the others eat their lunch.
When we got back the lounge, the girls had been offered a job doing some fruit picking up north and this is when it really kicked in that after Tuesday I was going to be the only one
left in Auckland. This was playing on my mind all day and pretty much ruined my day and night but i soldiered on, after all I had some shopping to do!

First stop was trying to find Lucy a new bag as her suitcase was falling apart and being a typical girl found the perfect bag at a good price but turned it down!
I had to plead my way into being allowed to buy an Auckland Blues rugby shirt which isn't cheap and when you have the bargain hunter herself (sammi) looking after your wallet, you do well to buy expensive stuff but I just smiled my way into being allowed it muhahaha.
We searched around abit more for Lucy's bag but me and Danny ended up buying more than her (danny bought a new shirt and t-shirt. I purchased new trousers, shirt, belt, another shirt and my rugby shirt. Sammi was not impressed with my spending at all)
After some retail therapy we let the others know we were meeting back at the room at 6 to make plans for the evenings activities. After a short nap we agreed on heading down to the harbour for a nice meal and a few drinks before heading out. I even made an effort for probaly the first time since I left the Uk, lashing on a shirt and jeans and trying to make myself look the part.
We left the room at half 8 and headed down to the Harbour. After some decision making we went to eat in basically a glorified pub, not my choice but hey, it wasn't my night.
I couldn't seem to shift the bad mood I was in and started throwing drinks down my neck just so Sammi and the others couldn't see my sulking (wasn't really working but I was trying to cheer up).
I didn't even really eat much as nothing took my fancy on the menu so I was now hungry as I hadnt had a proper meal all day and started to get abit pissed and moody, not good.
I joined Danny looking at the boats for some fresh air while he had a fag. This seemed to lift my mood abit as we had a real good chat about things and put it all into perspective.
It was at this point I really started to take in the beauty of the harbour. there was lovely decking and cool bars around the side of the harbour with the crystal white sailing boats anchored in the harbour with the bridge light up bright in the distance.
We joined the others to finish our drinks and pay and move on to somewhere else. We had a short walk to the next bar and I chose this point to tell Sammi what was really bothering me (this had been the only time we had really been alone in the past week and we had got pretty close so I thought it was only fair to talk to her). I told her I was just down because Matty was leaving tomorrow, Danny on Monday and then her on Tuesday and I was going to miss her.
I didn't really get much of a response which took me by suprise but I shrugged it off as we walked into the bar called the Waterfront. It was a gorgeous bar but I was finding it hard to really take it as I had a hundred thoughts buzzing round my head (that's why I don't really let myself get close to people and open up, messes my head up). We were probaly only in there for 5 minutes before it all got too much for and I didn't want to ruin anyones night by sulking and keeping myself to myself so I asked Sammi for my wallet & key card and left.
I felt like a right tit walking back by myself with a glum look on my face and felt like everyone was staring at me, I just couldn't wait to get back to the room and bed.
I spent most of the night just on the internet and listening to music, I just couldn't sleep, my brain was doing overtime. I was shattered but just had too much in my head to sleep.
I was probaly up for 2/3 hours before Danny got back. Then another hour or so before Sammi, Matty, James and Lucy got back. I had made sure that I left room for Sammi to get into bed without waking me up but she didn't.
Which again messed with my head. I was kinda pretending to be asleep as I felt so embarassed about what I had said before, perhaps that was why, who knows hey.
I probaly got a couple of hours sleep before waking up at 5am and not being able to get back to sleep. Kind of lucky really as Matty's alarm didn't wake him up so I had to.
He was leaving at half 7 so I stayed up talking to him a little bit, didn't really get a response but I guess he was just feeling down about leaving. Whilst he was getting ready to leave us. Half 7 came and after some short goodbyes from everyone he left. It was quite a downer really, he'll be sorely missed and it was difficult not to shed a tear or 2 but I held it together. I decided I'd go on a run to try and clear my head abit and sort my plan out for the next few days. This didn't really happen, I somehow managed to get caught in a fun run which I had no idea was on and the competitive part of me came through as I started racing them. After about 15mins I decided it would be best to head back alongside the ports of Auckland and up the main street to our hostel.
I don't think I made any plans on the way back because I just could not stop thinking about the night before and how embarassed I felt. I passed Sammi on the stairs but no words were really exchanged. I asked Lucy if anything had been said when I left but she assured me nothing had. This is kind of wierd, im hoping that im doing what I usually do and just think too much into things, must be the city. I didn't really think too much on Waiheke Island.
So here I am now, just lying on my bed in the hostel, the other 4 are still asleep but then again they were out pretty late. Today should be interesting, as will the next few days.

The Kayaking Disaster - Thursday 4th March

We had to give the chariot back and make plans about what we were going to do when we get back to Auckland. It was quite a sad day really but we had Kayaking to look forward to that morning.
4 of us got single kayaks (Me, Danny, Lucy and Matty) and then there was a double one (James and Sammi). It was difficult paddling at first into the wind but we stayed close to the right hand side of the bay and eventually we found a few hundred metres of bay that was sheltered from the wind. It was so peaceful and nice. We took a few pictures of the animals and steep hills, I swear we saw a penguin aswell! The kayak guy left us to our devices and told us if we were keen for a challenge, to head 20m out to sea so we would hitting big waves and getting spray everywhere. This is where things took a turn for the worse. Matty got flipped over and couldnt swim back to his kayak, we all thought he had jumped in for a swim. The James and Sammi got flipped by the wind and waves. Sammi couldnt swim and this is when panic really struck. I lost my concentration and flipped myself. I could see James had saved Sammi and they were floating there waiting for help. I tried to swim out to them but realised very soon that my kayak and paddle was floatting away. I managed after several attempts to rescue my paddle and kayak. Absolutely shattered lying on my kayak I could see James and Sammi had been rescued by a speed boat and Matty by a small sailing boat. Me, James and Danny managed to cross the bay and kayak back to the shore. It all happened so fast and after some contemplation I realised that the tide was deceiving and Me and Matty had actually paddled out about 75m into the sea, towards the really rough waves. Completely exhausted we all made it back. My first thought was check Sammi was okay, she was really shaken, as was everyone. The kayak guy took us uptown for a drink and some food to help come over the shock of what happened. After talking it over the guy said it was a freak accident and applauded us for our bravery. I was just glad we were all okay!
We got the ferry back to Auckland and booked ourselves into a hostel for the night. We quickly forgot about the days events when we got back and heading for the Spa. We got there to find it was full but we were told to get in anyway. 13 of us somehow squeezed into the tiny jacuzzi and started on the booze promptly! We went out for a few relaxing drinking afterwards then headed back to the hostel for a well earned sleep!

The Bio-Shelter - Wednesday 3rd March

We were due to leave Waiheke about 3 days ago but kept on buying more nights at the house. Our luck ran out as we couldnt get any more nights at the house and it was looking like we were having to go back to Auckland. Somehow though whilst on the phone to Ivan we managed to book ourselves into his Bio-Shelter!
The place was stunning, in a wierd way though. It was 5 floors high but not in a convential way. You walked in the main door straight into the kitchen, dining area with a chillout area to the right. Infront of us were the bath, shower and toilets all covered by linens and stuff. To left down a couple of stairs was the conversatory with hammock and couches to lay on. Behind the coach was a couple of stairs to the toilet and bath which completed a loop around the shelter. Down the stairs to left of the toilet and shower were 2 rooms. Behind the chillout area was the stairs upto 3/4 more rooms and a toilet (i say 3/4 because there was a bed on the landing and 2 cool rooms which came out of nowhere. upstairs was another 2 beds and upstairs again was the cave bed which as you can imagine didnt have alot of room. Me and Sammi unfortunately were stuck with the bed on the landing which didnt offer much privacy. We had to be careful with the water and power we used as the place was run on rainwater, solar power and wind power. It was quite a hippy house to be honest.
We spent the day again down on Oneroa Beach and just walked around the surrounding area. That night we went down to the bay for something to eat and a couple of drinks. It was a full moon so the walk back late that night was really peaceful and nice.

The Chariot - Tuesday 2nd March

In the morning we decided we would rent a car for the day and go exploring the island!
First stop was the supermarket to get some food for a BBQ down on Oneroa beach.
We got on the booze straight away again and made a very silly decision to feed a seagull, within minutes we were surrounded by them which looked like a scene from 'The Birds'.
We left Oneroa and headed East towards the winerys to sample some more local booze... again!
We were told by one of the local guys we know to head up to Fort Stony Batter to see the war tunnels. We wernt told the closing time though! After driving around ridiculously rocky tracks around cliff edges and walking for about 2 miles we finally got there to see it was closed!
We went down the beach again that night for a BBQ which was funny in the pitch black. Me and Sammi went for a stroll along the beach, as did James and Lucy. Only difference is Sammi decided to make me squirm abit as i struggled to get my words out unlike Lucy!
We left to walk back the house about midnight and got caught in a flood of rain, which was nice, not!

Judgement day - Monday 1st March

We woke up quite late after the day trip with some hangovers. I woke up feeling really weak and knackered and had food basically forced down my neck by Sammi before passing out and getting harassed by the others (James grabbing my arm and making me finger his toes, disgusting!)
We went down the beach and had a little nap which was nice! I basically got abused again, this time by Sammi for snoring (I usually get a punch or something for it!) It felt wierd all day as Paul, Dave and Hannah left in the morning so there was now only 6 of us. Danny and Matty went back to Auckland to pay off the bus trip so there was only 4 of us that day. Didnt really do much to be honest, just went for a run which should have been half hour but I got lost so it took an hour :/
Later that night we went down the beach and should of been joined by a few kiwi girls but Sammi's judgemental stare scared them off which meant all night she got a shed load of stick for it!
That night me, danny, james and matty bought some veet for a laugh and its safe to say now we half about half as much hair as normal!

Beachbum Bus - Sunday 28th February

We got picked up at 10 outside our house by Dan the beachbum bus driver. The original bus was having problems so we had to jump on one of the normal Stray buses. Dan brought along his staffy dog Jade for the ride. First stop was down to Oneroa bay to watch the Tsunami which we were warned about. At first we stood at the bottom of the hill then realised it may be best to head to the top of the hill for safety and a better view obviously. The Tsunami never happened, it just felt like a constant calm before the storm really. After a good hour and a half we jump back on the bus and towards the supermarket to stock up on food and booze for a BBQ later in the day. After the supermarket we went walking in the Waiheke Rainforest reserve for half an hour. The trees were amazing but i was getting quite tipsy at this point so I didn't really care for the scenary, I just wanted to not fall off the track!
Dan then took us to a winery at the top of the hill called 'Wild On Waiheke'. The wine was gorgeous there so I bought myself a nice bottle of rose to get hammered on later!
We left the winery feeling light headed and quite drunk and opened another bottle of beer and set off for Man 'O War bar. The water was really shallow and lovely... Or so i was told! Me, James, Danny and Matty went for some more wine tasting. The portions were massive and we made our way through about 8 or 9 more wines before leaving stubbling all over the place!
After grabbing some grub from the BBQ we went to this small pier thing down the road to jump off into the sea which properly sorted my head out!
We got back to the township and went to an open mic bar for some more booze! Andy got shit faced after drinking his bottle of wine on the bus then getting on it again in the bar and chatting up all the local girls!
We got back to the house pretty drunk and left to walk down the beach and chill out for a couple of hours!

Little Palm Beach - Saturday 27th February

So we had the whole day to ourselves to just chill out. We all decided to sleep on the mattresses left for us in the lounge, some of us sharing beds which made for interesting conversations in the morning. Well Danny decided to sleep in a bed, which was a poor decision. We all got biten in the night but some bed bugs really went to town on Dannys arm (47 bites I think it was).
We grabbed breakfast, had some coffee and left the house about 2am to head down the beach. There was a really secluded beach we could see from the top of the hill (which had some awesome views of the coastline. theres a theme occuring here I think). After walking down the wrong path, which made me very smug, we then walked down my path to the beach.
We were greeted by a big, naked, suprise. That's right, our nice small beach was a nudey beach!
We left promptly to to Palm beach just down the coast. After a short sharp workout with Matty we played in the sea for abit and called it a day, heading back to the house to cook dinner and enjoy some more booze.
This time, we all slept in the lounge!

Waiheke Island - Friday 26th February

We got up early in the morning to check out our hostels with plenty of time to grab breakfast and jump on the ferry to Waiheke. We were told we were staying in a house on the island which could house 10 of us. The ferry was freezing cold because of the wind but we didn't really care because the sun was still shining.
After taking in the breathing taking views across the Auckland and the Islands, we landed at Waiheke. The island slighlty resembles the island off lost, with the buildings there and the scenery and breath taking rolling hills. We grabbed a taxi upto where we were staying (not before it started falling apart infront of our eyes). somehow we managed to fit the 9 of us (Me, Sammi, Lucy, Hannah, Matty, Danny, James, Dave and Paul) and 4 yanks in 7 seater!
We were greeted at the house by Ivan, who has been trying to sell it. I can't believe he hasn't had any luck selling it. Its surrounded by tropical trees so its really private and the view across the farms from the balcony is something to be admired (especially when theres a family of llamas there).
We just unpacked and chilled out abit before walking down to the supermarket to pick up essentials (beer and meat). We then walked down to the beach to catch some of the afternoon rays and have a BBQ in the evening on the beach.
Roll on the day trip the next day!

First Sign Of Rain - 25th February

Today was a pretty chilled out day. I woke up looking forward to a beach trip, some booze and a small game of touch rugby but nooooooo, it had to piss it down didn't it.
Everyone just spent the day chilling out in the BUNAC/IEP lounge across the road. We also sorted out a weekend on Waiheke Island 35mins away. It was another early night as we had to be on the 10am ferry to the Island.
